Week 7 Blog

 This week I learned about phenotypes and genotypes, I already learned about them when I was younger but the game to build the baby was a good reminder of how that builds genetics. 

I love the idea of using the candy model of DNA and I could see it being really engaging for young children but my only worry would be allergies in the classrooms and certain schools not allowing food to be brought in. 

I really loved the group project of building the characteristics of a child by flipping a coin and it's definitely an activity Id do with my students because it's something I remember doing in 7th grade because it was so engaging and directly aligns with the NGSS.

week 13

 This week we worked on the m&ms melting in water again and used sugar to see whether they melted quicker or slower. I love this idea for children relating a common candy they are all interested in with an experiment, This is a lesson that is relatable to most of their lives. I think the way we went back to a previous activity like this one that we have done before is always a good idea because it builds prior knowledge from the first lesson and creates a more in depth understanding of a topic when we are just focused on one.
